Failure analysis of elasto-plastic material models on dierent levels of observation

چکیده
This paper aims at characteristic failure mechanisms of cohesive frictional materials at two levels of observation: (a) at the macroscale of continuum elastoplasticity, and (b) at the microscale of active microplanes with arbitrary orientation. Thereby, the criteria for the loss of uniqueness and the loss of ellipticity will be discussed for a macroscopic as well as a microplane-based anisotropic plasticity formulation. In addition, conditions for shear dilatancy will be developed at the two scales which illustrate the necessity to couple normal and shear components at each microplane. Ó 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. A 3D elasto-plastic FEM program developed for reservoir Geomechanics simulations: Introduction and case studies
The development of yielded or failure zone due to an engineering construction is a subject of study in different disciplines. In Petroleum engineering, depletion from and injection of gas into a porous rock can cause development of a yield zone around the reservoir. Studying this phenomenon requires elasto-plastic analysis of geomaterial, in this case the porous rocks. In this study, which is a...
متن کاملElasto-Plastic Finite Element Evaluation of Flexible Pavements Based on Shakedown Concept
In this paper, three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis was performed on flexible pavements under vertical repeated traffic loads to evaluate their shakedown behavior. Six different pavements with different structural number (SN) were modeled and subjected to a wide range of cyclic vehicle loads. Shakedown limits were obtained considering both failure and serviceability restrain...
متن کاملApplication of Cosserat Continuum Approach in the Finite Element Shear Strength Reduction Analysis of Jointed Rock Slopes
This paper focuses on the application of a continuum-based method in the Shear Strength Reduction (SSR) analysis of the stability of jointed rock slopes. In order to take into account the jointed nature of the material, the Finite Element Method (FEM) is formulated based on Cosserat theory. Also, it is assumed that failure of the equivalent material can result from failure of the joints, failur...
متن کاملElasto-plastic analysis of discontinuous medium using linearly conforming radial point interpolation method
In this paper, the linearly conforming enriched radial basis point interpolation method is implemented for the elasto-plastic analysis of discontinuous medium. The linear conformability of the method is satisfied by the application of stabilized nodal integration and the enrichment of radial basis functions is achieved by the addition of linear polynomial terms. To implement the method for the ...
متن کاملElasto-plastic solution for thick-walled spherical vessels with an inner FGM layer
Purely elastic, partially and fully plastic stress states in a thick-walled spherical pressure vessel with an inner functionally graded material (FG) coating subjected to internal and external pressures are developed analytically in this paper. The modulus of elasticity and the uniaxial yield limit of the FG coating layer are considered to vary nonlinearly through the thickness. Using Tresca’s ...
